Things to do in and around Budleigh SaltertonBudleigh Salterton is a picturesque town at the start of the World Heritage Jurassic Coast. It remains to this day as one of Devon’s unspoilt and charming towns for those who wish to enjoy a day in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere while taking in the historic heritage.
Budleigh Salterton has a two mile pebble beach and for those brave enough to take a dip the water is beautiful, clean and clear. The high street is full of independent shops selling a variety of goods, there are also quality restaurants, cosy pubs and a nationally renowned fish and chip shop.
If you are interested in natural beauty, Budleigh Salterton has many long nature walks which are recommended by locals as well as many regular tourists, the most popular being a walk along side the River Otter towards Otterton and of course walking along the beach itself.
Its also easy to explore other local areas such as Lympstone, Topsham, Exmouth, Sidmouth and we’re just a 30 minute drive from Exeter.

East Devon Golf Club
During it’s 120 year history East Devon Golf Club has played host to Royalty, H.R.H The Prince of Wales (the future Edward VIII) played the course in 1921; famous sporting names including Australian cricketers Sir Donald Bradman, Richie Benaud, Greg and Ian Chappell; celebrities and golfing greats such as Peter Alliss who considered the view from the 16th tee to be “one of the best views in golf”.
Otterton Mill

Bicton Park Botanical Gardens

The Palm House is made from over 18,000 panes of glass (built 20yrs before The Kew Gardens Palm House) hosting many Palms. Tropical House, Arid House, Temperate house. Explore the arboretum and while away time in the bird hide Ride the Bicton Woodland railway for an oversight of the park (suitable for wheelchairs) The countryside museum containing a huge collection of bygone days…. Exe Estuary Trail – Route 2
You can start Route 2 from right outside the door of Mackerel Cottage and either walk or cycle the length of the old railway line to Exmouth. The route then connects to the Exe Trail which is part of Route 2 and this exceptionally beautiful ride follows both sides of Devon’s radiant Exe Estuary. It is fairly flat and offers fantastic river and estuary views with most of the ride being on paved cycle tracks. You’ll also enjoy the opportunity to spot wildlife as the nearby marshes provide a year-round haven for thousands of birds and are looked after by the RSPB. The villages of Lympstone and Topsham can also be explored on this world class cycling and walking route.
